Whenever I check a suitcase, I always make sure that I have a carry-on change of clothes, just in case. I've missed connections, and airlines have lost my luggage. My spare clothes have saved me many times. Because the main compartment of this Baggallini Tandem bag has a spacious, boxy area with straps, just as a suitcase would, it's like a mini suitcase. I pack my change of clothes in a packing cube, strap it down, and still have room for lots of other stuff: bag of liquids, headphones, charging cables, and even a slender crossbody purse. It has one water bottle sleeve with an elastic top on the exterior; if you switch to briefcase orientation, the water bottle will be on the bottom, something I wouldn't like.
On the back, it has a (well-hidden) zippered sleeve for a laptop and, behind that, a luggage sleeve that can convert from upright to sideways. The laptop compartment can hold more than a laptop, although the space is more flat than boxy like the main compartment The front has two zippered pockets that are ideal for my passport, phone, medications — anything I want to easily access. This bag, even when full, should fit under most airline seats. It will definitely fit in the overhead compartment with no issue.
The backpack straps are padded, and that's essential for heavy loads. They are adjustable but not removable, so they stay with the bag even if you orient like a briefcase. It comes with a crossbody strap that you can attach if you orient is sideways and don't want to carry it by the small, padded handle.
I love that the Tandem can carry a ton of things without being bulky. It's easy to keep my belongings organized and easy to access. The workmansjhip is excellent, and the water-repellent fabric is rugged without being too heavy. As a frequent flier, I appreciate all the attention to detail that Baggallini has used in its design.
